What’s the Difference Between Hemp and Marijuana?

Let’s get one thing straight right away: hemp is not marijuana. Though the two plants are related because they are both one of many cannabis plant strains, they are quite different.

To understand the difference, you must first understand THC. THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) is a compound found in the cannabis plant, but it comes in much higher quantities in marijuana than hemp. THC is responsible for the psychoactive effects of marijuana, meaning it’s what gets you “high.” Hemp has significantly less THC than its cousin — too little to impact your mind the way marijuana does.

What is CBD?

The chemical compound in hemp is CBD (cannabidiol). While both marijuana and hemp have CBD, the high levels of THC limit the use of medical marijuana use for many. Hemp has low levels of THC and high levels of CBD, meaning that individuals who are looking to use cannabis without getting high may find hemp to be an intriguing alternative. CBD research is still in its infancy, but the  compound are evident.

While cannabis continues to be supported by research as scientists have gotten increasingly more curious about hemp. The latest developments suggest that taking hemp oil for a daily dose of CBD could offer a variety of advantages to individuals.

What is Hemp Oil?

Hemp Oil is a natural compound that has been increasingly researched due to its significant  effects. Hemp Oil contains at least 60 active cannabinoids and is considered to have a wider scope of elements of the plant.

In recent years an orally-administered extract containing Hemp Oil has received orphan drug status in the US. Below is a list of the most common pros and cons for Hemp Oil.
